Tory Birch was recently a guest judge on the show Project Runway. During the runway critique of designer Amy’s looks, Tory said, “I think my biggest problem with it is the color palate and it’s really throwing me because I don’t really feel those colors work together.” She later said, “I’m not sure that blue and orange are that complimentary. Do you think so?” What’s even worse is Heidi Klum and Michael Kors both reply “No,” that they aren’t complimentary.

Let’s take just a moment to define what exactly a complementary color is, shall we?

A complementary color is the color directly opposite another on a color wheel and provides the greatest chromatic contrast to it.

Knowing that, let’s take a quick look at every designer’s best friend, the color wheel!

No, no, it can’t be! Surely, that can’t be orange opposite of blue! Oh wait, it is. Whether Tory Birtch would like to admit it or not, ORANGE IS IN FACT THE COMPLIMENTARY COLOR OF BLUE.

This is art and design 101. VERY basic concepts that any artist or designer should know. Tory, don’t you claim to be a fashion designer? How sad for you.

Then I though, let’s take this one step further. I bet I can find something Tory Birch has put out that has blue and orange in it. By finding such an item, it would pretty much imply that she isn’t the one designing her merchandise.

This was actually an easier feat than I thought it would be.

Tory, Tory, Tory… I’ve hated your work for a long time now, what with you peddling $100 plastic shoes and all, but now I actually know why I’ve hated your shit all this time… You have no knowledge of basic art and design concepts. I guess, subconsciously, I’ve known all along.

Oh and just in case you’ve never seen the ugly plastic shoes I mentioned…
